It’s been a long time since I last played Civilization, one of the best strategy games of all time. I used to play the game a lot back when it was Civilization III (2001) and Civilization IV (2005), but haven’t played much since. For this blog series, I’m going to provide some play-by-play as I dive back in.
I noticed immediately that the graphics are just beautiful. Look at some of the details on the map.
I started my game as Japan. I have to say, I just accepted the random assignment.
Unfortunately, all of Japan’s civilization bonuses are tied to it being a coastal empire and my starting location is very much inland. No worry, though, I have a very nice riverside location for Kyoto, my first city in what I hope will become a great civilization to stand the test of time.
Early on, in 3800 B.C., I got my first hint of what was going to be an ongoing issue: barbarians. This is the first sign of what was about to become a very pesky problem for my emerging empire.
By the time 2560 B.C. rolled around,I had my second city up and running.
I’ll post more as my empire progresses.
Anyway, here’s a tutorial for beginners and I recommend you watch it if you’re new to the game. Old Civ veterans might find it slow in parts.
A new expansion to the game is coming, called Civilization VI: Rise and Fall. Here is a trailer for the new expansion, which will arrive in February, 2018.
